FLITELite - Dual Intensity Pilot's Light - the best hands free light in aviation. FLITELite is a highly efficient LED flashlight that snaps on to your headset microphone. More than just a flashlight, it is a lighting system with advanced microcomputer technology. Comprised of three main components A specific adapter for your headset, a three LED light unit with an infrared proximity switch controlled with a touch of your lip, and AAA battery pack good for 200 hours of continuous use. The kit comes complete with batteries and other accessories. FLITELite takes only minutes to install.
The LED light unit is controlled with a proximity sensor. Touch it with your lip to turn on three lights, twice for one light, and three times for off. FLITELite will auto off after one minute, and shut itself off in bright light. You will never have to take your hands off the controls to activate your light, fumble around, look for, or lose your flashlight again.
The soft white LEDs will not interfere with night vision. The full spectrum light and low reflection reduces the amount of light needed. Under red light, magenta symbols disappear on charts, and during electrical failures, red markings on instruments and gauges are unreadable. Blue/Green light is not safe for preflight, or over wing lighting since it makes Blue 100LL fuel disappear. Since FLITELite uses a full spectrum soft white light, you do not experience these potentially dangerous side affects.
Military pilots have been relying on mic light or lip lights for many years. Flitelite has taken the military solution to aviation cockpit normal and emergency lighting needs.
They put together an engineering team to rebuild the product from the ground up. They replaced the mechanical switch with and infrared proximity sensor. The old mechanical switch moved the microphone when it was pushed, making the light require a hand when used. With the new sensor replacing the switch, they created a true lip light. This led to additional features, auto off in bright light, timed off, and other great controls. Each version of the lip light is custom fit to specific aviation headsets. Rather than use a large and unwieldy mix of clamps, o-rings and wires, our light looks OEM. Only FLITELite makes an adapter that is specific to your make and model of headset.
The first model that was developed was test for AVCOMM headsets. Once the initial design and testing was complete, and with some market research. Flitelite identified the Bose X Aviation Headset customer as a launch customer for the new lip light. Additionally, David Clark users could use a mic light since freight pilots seem to rely on David Clark headsets when flying at night. LightSPEED ANR headset users also matched the criteria for an initial headset mounted light launch.
Flitelite did not limit themselves to the BOSE, AVCOMM, DAVID CLARK, or LIGHTSPEED Models. They completed work on the Sigtronics, PIlot USA, PELTOR, FLIGHTCOMM, and SoftComm models as well. They estimate that their current adapter line meets 90% of current headsets in production. No other manufacturer has invested is a custom adapters for each kind of aviation headset. Only FLITELite comes with the right adapter to mount the mike lite directly to the headset boom. Flitelite is adding more models each month.
